Rejoice, beer fans! The Ninkasi Believer Double Red is finally back on tap at Bailey’s, and it’s just as good as I remember it from all those months ago (although, I’ll admit to picking this up in the bottle from time-to-time since then). This is the kind of beer that I point to whenever anyone says ambers and red ales are the same thing. A red ale is to an amber what an IPA is to a pale ale or a stout to a porter. In this case, it’s far richer than an amber with a slight tartness that differentiates itself from its sweeter, lighter counterpart. The hops are big here, too, but somehow those geniuses at Ninkasi have figured out to keep it smooth and balanced. Maybe it’s not quite a session choice, but it’s not far off. This is a beer that goes down in gulps, not sips.
